The Our Lady of Peace Council was founded on April 25, 1988, through the efforts of the parishioners of Curé of Ars. It was named after Pope Paul VI declared the Blessed Virgin Mary under the Our Lady of Peace title patron of El Salvador in an Apostolic Letter of October 10, 1966. In the parish church of St. Michael, in the City of San Salvador, there is an ancient statue of the Virgin Mary holding an olive branch which, according to some accounts, was brought there from a shipwreck. In September 1787, the inhabitants of the city attributed to the statue their safety when threatened by a volcanic eruption, and the Virgin has also been looked upon as a model of peace among warring factions in that country's times of troubles. The Curé of Ars Our Lady of Peace Council carries on with the devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary and Jesus Christ in working closely with the Curé of Ars Parish in Leawood, Kansas providing funds for various projects and with members being active participants in their parish community development.
The Mission of Our Lady of Peace Council 9856, through the intercession of our Lady, is to faithfully serve our families and community following our guiding principles while respecting the life and dignity of all.
Charity- Matthew 22:39 “Jesus said you shall love the Lord your God with your whole heart, with your whole soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and the first commandment. The second is like the first: You shall love thy neighbor as thyself”. Putting our love into action for the good of others through our service and actions.
Unity- Together we can accomplish far more together than any one of us individually. By working together, supporting each other, and encouraging each other, brother knights make life better for one another, for our parish and our community.
Fraternity- Fr. Michael McGivney founded the Knights of Columbus in large part to aid widows and orphans. In the Knights we watch out for and take care of one another.
Patriotism- We are proud of our devotion to God and to our country. As Knights we stand up for both, reminding the world that we, through our faith, prayers and actions, support our country.
